Trailer Extras

Trailer Registration

Initial trailer registration includes government fee and number plate fee.
All trailers come with a VIN plate attached.
Registration is done in-house by our staff – no need to go to Services SA.


Trailer Paint

We stock a range of hammertone colour choices to suit most applications.
Custom colours and paint match can be organised at an additional price.


Galvanised Trailers

Galvanised trailers come in 2 different styles.
Cold galvanised and hot dipped galvanised.

COLD GALVANISED TRAILERS
Cold galv trailers are made using pre-galvanised materials.
When you weld these pre-galved materials, the heat from the welder caused the galv coating to burn away.
For this reason, we cold galv spray all welds after fabrication to prevent rusting over time.
This process is generally cheaper than hot dip galvanising but not as aesthetically pleasing.
(You can often see the cold galvanising spray).
These trailers are also made using flat sheet steel as there is no pre-galvanised checkerplate
available for purchase due to the warping caused by the heat in the hot dipping process. 

HOT DIPPED GALVANISED TRAILERS
Hot dipped galv trailers are made using Australian mild steel and then dipped into a tank of hot galvanised liquid.
This process covers the steel to protect it from rusting as quickly over time.
This is done in tanks of extreme heat and can cause warping in the thin trailer floor.
For this reason, we add more welds and use thicker materials when hot dipping trailers.

Trailer Tyres

All SA Trailers come with brand new tyres. Where possible, we use light truck tyres. Larger ratings may require different tyres.
Our standard tyre size is a 14 inch light truck tyre (185R14C).


6 Stud Landcruiser Upgrade

Upgrade to 6 stud Landcruiser pattern to suit 6 stud wheels.
Price includes:

  • Landcruiser 6 stud hubs,
  • Landcruiser 6 stud 235R15 or 245R16 wheels

All single axle trailers come standard unbraked 750kg ATM.
All tandem axle trailers come standard with mechanical disk brakes 1990kg ATM.
Brake upgrades may require stronger chassis (not just running gear). This can increase the weight of the trailer.


Springs

All single axle trailers come standard with slipper springs (up to 1600kg ATM).
All tandem axle trailers come standard with slipper springs (up to 1990kg ATM).
Single axle trailers over 1600kg ATM come standard with eye – eye springs.
Tandem axle trailers over 1990kg ATM come standard with tandem axle roller rocker springs.
Eye – eye and roller rocker spring upgrades are also available on trailers that come standard with slipper springs.

Why Choose SA Trailers

Why are our trailers more expensive? Simple, they’re built to last!

We have been hiring out trailers for many years now and used to out source our trailers from cheaper local suppliers.  We quickly learnt that the “cheaper trailers” quickly become expensive trailers.

What were we finding?

Axles
We were finding that the cheaper axles weren’t machined or assembled with the precision that the more expensive axles had. This would cause constant bearing play on the axle, ultimately leading to early bearing failure.

Bearings
We only use quality Japanese bearings on our trailers as we have tested and proven that they are more reliable than cheaper Chinese bearings.
Cheaper trailers often come with cheaper bearings so make sure you are getting Japanese bearings on your trailer.

Hubs
We have seen some shocking hubs being used by cheaper trailer manufacturers. These poorly cast hubs, often out of India, look the part, but wear out quickly causing the bearing races to spin. Make sure your trailer is being assembled with quality hubs and grease.

Couplings
Believe it or not, couplings play a big part on how well a trailer tows. We know from hiring trailers that a good quality coupling will last longer and give a better overall towing experience. Cheaper couplings wear out a lot quicker and can cause play in the coupling after only a few weeks use.

Brakes
Brakes were a major issue when we were buying cheaper trailers for the hire fleet. They were constantly going out of adjustment and causing hundreds of dollars damage to the hubs and brake pads. We recommend paying a bit extra for quality trailer brakes.

Workmanship
We allocate more time to ensuring your trailer not only looks the part, but that it is assembled correctly too.
Our qualified tradesman quality check every step along the way, making sure we are handing over a quality trailer.
We take the time to get the little things right like making sure the paint has no runs, soldering all the wiring and ensuring the bearings and brakes are adjusted.
These finer touches reduce warranty issues which means your trailer is out performing as it should, saving you time and money in the long run.
